FAQ
FAQ
Why don’t you use organic beeswax?
Due to the free-ranging and amazing nature of bees, it is incredibly difficult to make beeswax ‘organic’. Did you know that bees can travel up to 5 miles foraging for food?! That is amazing! While we wish we could have a 5 mile radius of beautiful, organic certified farmland, that is currently out of our reach. We so use both our own beeswax from our hives, and sustainably sourced wax from happy, healthy bees.
Do you test on animals?
Yes! US! We consciously choose our ingredients to be gentle, non-comedogenic-oriented, and beneficial both physically and energetically. We formulate our products carefully, and test everything ourselves, and on our friends and family who are willing test-subjects. Only AFTER this rigorous testing do we test on animals- meet Wicket, our farm-fox. She is the pro-dev department on the Face Balm, and we tested this gentle formula on her widdle paws so she can keep up with us while ski touring in the winter. Her poor paws get so full of snowballs that she wants to keep up, but can’t with icy toes!
ABOUT OUR PACKAGING
We do our best to opt for plastic reduction in our packaging and processing. We understand the ecological and biological impacts of plastic being wasteful, and also potential hormone disruptors. We also prioritize local, US made, organic, wilcrafted, or fair trade certified ingredients and packaging in our products. We source our paper tubes from a US based manufacturing company that meets the EU requirements for cosmetic and food usage, and we opt for glass and plastic instead of plastic containers where possible. Please find a good re-use or re-home for these packages after use instead of discarding them immediately. Please note, this can be expensive to prioritize packaging in a sustainably minded way, and some of our product cost reflect prioritizing living wages, reduction of pollution, waste, and toxins in both your body and the environment. Please purchase conciously. We prioritize health and wellness in our household, and want to extend the same courtesy to yours!
From Our container supplier: “We take care to consider sustainability in every step of sourcing, production, packaging and shipment. The tubes are made with FSC certified paper, and the outer paper of all of our brown kraft paper tubes are 100% recycled. The adhesive used is rice glue, and the lining is soybean wax that is stable up to 140°F or 60°C. All of our tubes are fully home compostable unless they have an additional coating on the outside of the tube (these are specified as "coated" in the product title). Tubes that have an extra coating on the outside are industrially compostable, and have a thin layer of PLA bioplastic made from plant starches from sugar cane, corn stalks, etc. For custom orders, we only use vegetable inks. The containers are food grade and comply with EU regulations for cosmetic container safety standards. Finally, we ship using plastic free, recycled materials that are recyclable and compostable.”
